L I T E R A T U R E

This issue contains selections of recent poetry from seven authors: Dagnija Dreika, Kristīne Locika, Alise Mētra, Evelīna Mūrniece, Elīna Vendija Rībena, Aija Rozena, and Kaspars Zalāns.

Prose is from Džena Andersone, Gunita Lagzdiņa, Elīna Līce and Sergejs Moreino. Also, we feature five award winners of a short story competition in the town of Tukums last year – Ināra Bezmere, Gvido Drage, Maija Laugale, Guna Roze and Guntis Tālers.

 

R E V I E W S

Writer, critic, and head of the Latvian Writers’ Union Arno Jundze contributes an article he wrote 24 years ago, titled “Karogs 1940-1949. The first decade”. The monthly literary magazine Karogs (Banner) was published in Latvia from 1940 to 2010.

Our art editor Linda Treija, head of the American Latvian Artists Association (ALMA), delivers an encomium to the life and achievements of Eleonora Šturma on her 95th birthday. Šturma is one of the most influential contemporary art critics in the Latvian émigré community.

Linda Treija introduces our featured artist, sculptor Gints Grinbergs, who resides in Boston, Massachusetts. His sculptures in metal, stone and wood can be seen exhibited both indoors and outdoors in museums, galleries and parks in North America as well as in Latvia. The cover of this issue is adorned with his illuminated dandelion.
